Flathead Catfish

For the whiskered giants, White Settlement provides access to some promising flathead catfish waters. The Trinity River and the larger lakes like Eagle Mountain and Lake Worth hold good populations of flatheads. Live bait is key, with sunfish, perch, or shad being top choices. Target areas with submerged logs, deep holes, and current breaks. Night fishing is particularly productive during the warmer months. These fish are ambush predators, so focus on areas where they can hide and wait for prey. A local tip: Many anglers have success fishing near the I-820 bridge on the Trinity River, but be mindful of the current. Also, be prepared for a fight – flatheads are known for their powerful runs and stubborn resistance.
