Black Sea Bass

New London offers some fantastic Black Sea Bass fishing, particularly in the waters around Long Island Sound. These fish are structure-oriented, so focus your efforts around rocky reefs, wrecks, and submerged ledges. The bite really picks up in the late spring and continues strong through the fall as water temperatures moderate. Keep an eye on local forage; Black Sea Bass are opportunistic feeders. Look for areas with abundant small crabs, shrimp, and squid. A simple high-low rig baited with clams or squid is a proven winner. Don't be afraid to experiment with jigging as well, especially around deeper structure. A good access point is the New London State Pier, offering ample parking and access to the water. Be aware that the currents can be strong in this area, so use appropriately weighted tackle.
