Blackfin Tuna

Various

Blackfin Tuna fishing out of Jacksonville, Florida, can be a thrilling experience. These powerful fish are abundant in the offshore waters, especially around structures like wrecks and reefs. The warmer months, from late spring through summer, generally offer the best opportunities as the tuna follow baitfish schools. Chumming is a popular technique to attract tuna to your boat. Live bait, such as pilchards or threadfin herring, is highly effective when drift fishing near these structures. A local tactic is to use fluorocarbon leaders, as blackfin can be line-shy. Be sure to check the latest fishing reports for bait concentrations and water conditions. Access to the offshore grounds is best from the numerous marinas along the St. Johns River, but be prepared for a potentially long boat ride. Remember that blackfin tuna are schooling fish, so if you catch one, there are likely more nearby!
