Blue Catfish

If you're chasing trophy blue catfish in the North Georgia mountains, Dillard offers some unique opportunities. While not known as a blue cat hotspot, the upper reaches of the Tallulah River system and the larger reservoirs connected to it (like Lake Burton further downstream) hold surprisingly large specimens. Blue cats in this area are often opportunistic feeders due to the clear, colder water. Target deeper holes and channel bends, especially during the warmer months (late spring through early fall) when they are most active. Fresh cut bait, like gizzard shad or bluegill, works well. Access can be a challenge in some areas, so consider using a kayak or small boat to reach more remote spots. Be aware of water level fluctuations, especially after heavy rains, as this can impact fishing conditions and safety. Check local regulations regarding bait restrictions and size limits before heading out.
