Crappie

Crappie fishing near Dillard centers around the highland reservoirs of Rabun County, particularly Lake Burton and Lake Rabun. These clear, deep lakes offer excellent crappie habitat, especially around submerged timber and bridge pilings. Spring is the prime time to target crappie, as they move into shallower water to spawn. Minnows and jigs are the most popular baits, and trolling or spider-rigging can be highly effective techniques. Look for crappie in depths of 10-20 feet near structure. As the water warms, crappie will often move deeper, so adjust your presentation accordingly. A local tip: many anglers have success using small crankbaits trolled at slow speeds. Also, consider fishing at night under lights, as crappie are often attracted to the light. Remember to check the Georgia DNR regulations for crappie size and creel limits before you head out.
