Crappie

Crappie fishing near Flovilla centers around Jackson Lake, a large reservoir on the South River. This lake is a crappie hotspot, known for its abundance of submerged timber and brush piles, which provide ideal habitat. The pre-spawn period in early spring (March-April) is the absolute best time to target slab crappie, as they move into the shallows to spawn. Fish around docks, brush piles, and submerged trees in coves and creeks. Minnows fished under a bobber are a classic and effective tactic, but small jigs and soft plastics also work well. Local intel: the Tussahaw Creek arm of the lake is a consistent producer. Pay close attention to water temperature; crappie tend to move shallower as the water warms. Jackson Lake offers a good mix of black and white crappie, and fish over two pounds are not uncommon. Be prepared for some competition from other anglers, especially on weekends, but with a little persistence, you can find your own productive spots.
