If you're looking for some fast-paced white bass action in central Georgia, Flovilla offers a productive fishery on the Ocmulgee River. While not as well-known as some other white bass hotspots, the Ocmulgee near Flovilla holds a healthy population, especially during their spring spawning run. The prime time is late February through early April, when the whites migrate upstream to spawn. Focus your efforts around shoals, rocky areas, and creek mouths where they congregate. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are all effective. A local tip: Pay attention to water levels. A slightly rising river can trigger an excellent bite, but too much flow can make it difficult to fish. Public access is available at several bridge crossings and smaller access points along the river, but be prepared to wade as bank fishing spots can be limited. The white bass here average a pound or two, with the occasional larger fish in the mix.
