Blue Catfish

While not as common as channel catfish, blue catfish can be found in some of the larger reservoirs and river systems near Aurora, Nebraska, offering a unique angling challenge. The Platte River system, though requiring some travel, is the most likely location to find them. Targeting blue catfish requires a bit more specialized knowledge and gear compared to their channel cat cousins. The best time to target them is during the warmer months, particularly late spring through early fall. Look for deeper holes, channels, and areas with strong current. Large cut bait, such as carp or shad, is the preferred bait. Heavy tackle is essential, as blue catfish can grow to impressive sizes.
