If you're hunting trophy-sized blue catfish in southwestern Oklahoma, Eldorado offers some surprisingly good options. The Red River, which forms the border with Texas, is the primary draw. While access can be a bit challenging, the reward is the potential to hook into blues exceeding 50 pounds. Look for deep holes and submerged timber, especially during periods of stable water levels. Spring and fall are generally the best times to target these behemoths, as they move into shallower water to feed. A local tip: Pay attention to the river's flow. Heavy rains upstream can quickly muddy the water and reduce visibility, so check the USGS water data before heading out. Bank fishing opportunities are limited, so consider a small boat or kayak for better access. Also, be aware of private property boundaries along the river; always obtain permission where needed.
