Bluefish

If you're looking for some exciting inshore action, the waters around Hampton, Virginia are teeming with Bluefish. These aggressive feeders are a blast to catch and can be found throughout the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. Spring and fall are prime times, as bluefish migrate along the coast, following schools of baitfish. They're not picky eaters, so a variety of lures and baits will work. Spoons, poppers, and crankbaits are all effective, as are cut bait and live eels. Focus on areas with strong currents, such as inlets, bridges, and channel edges. Bluefish often school up, so if you find one, you're likely to find more. Remember, these fish have sharp teeth, so use wire leaders to avoid getting bitten off.
