Brown Trout

While Nunn, Colorado, isn't exactly known as a trout mecca, there are a few opportunities for brown trout within a reasonable drive. Focus your efforts on the streams and rivers flowing out of the nearby mountains, particularly those with public access. The Cache La Poudre River, while further west, could be a worthwhile day trip. Spring and early summer, after runoff subsides, are generally the best times to target browns, as water levels stabilize and the fish become more active. Look for deeper pools, undercut banks, and areas with riffles and runs. A practical tip: be prepared for variable water conditions, as flows can change quickly depending on snowmelt and rainfall. Also, consider using smaller flies and lighter tippet, as the trout can be selective. The brown trout in these streams tend to be wild and wary, offering a challenging but rewarding fishing experience.
