Similar to Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout aren't a primary target species in Lake in the Hills itself. However, some select locations within the broader region receive limited stockings, making them a potential, albeit challenging, catch. Check the IDNR stocking reports for recent releases in nearby lakes or streams. Spring and fall, with their cooler water temperatures, are your best bet. Small streams flowing into the Fox River might hold some trout, though access can be tricky. A stealthy approach is crucial when targeting browns, as they are notoriously wary. Small spinners, spoons, and flies can be effective. A local tip: focus on areas with undercut banks and fallen logs, as these provide excellent cover for brown trout. Remember to practice catch and release to help sustain these fragile populations, and always check regulations for specific waters.
