Northern Pike

Targeting Northern Pike around Lake in the Hills offers a unique experience within the Chain O'Lakes region. This area, dotted with interconnected lakes and channels, provides diverse pike habitat, from shallow weedy bays to deeper, cooler waters. Spring, just after ice-out, is prime time as pike move into shallow areas to spawn. Fall is also excellent, as they aggressively feed before winter. Try fishing near the Fox River's entry and exit points to the lakes, as these areas often hold concentrations of pike. A local tip: the Algonquin Tailwater on the Fox River, just a short drive away, can be productive, especially after periods of high water. Focus on areas with submerged vegetation and use large, flashy lures or live bait under a bobber. Remember, pike in this region can be quite wary, so use fluorocarbon leaders and a stealthy approach.
