Brown Trout

While Browerville isn't exactly known as a trout mecca, determined anglers can find some brown trout fishing opportunities in the area's smaller streams and rivers. The Long Prairie River, which meanders through the region, holds a modest population of browns, primarily due to stocking efforts. Spring and fall are your best bets, when water temperatures are cooler and the fish are more active. Early morning and late evening are particularly productive. Consider using small spinners, spoons, or live bait like worms or grasshoppers. Fly fishing can also be effective with nymphs and dry flies that imitate local insects. Access can be challenging in some areas due to private land, so be sure to respect property boundaries and seek permission where necessary. Check the DNR's trout stream maps for designated public access points. The brown trout in this area tend to be smaller, but the chance to catch a wild or stocked trout in a relatively quiet setting makes it a worthwhile pursuit.
