Brown Trout

While not as common as other species, Brown Trout can be found in some of the cooler streams and rivers near Clitherall, Minnesota. The Otter Tail River, and some of its tributaries, offer potential for catching these elusive fish. Spring and fall are generally the best times to target brown trout, as they are more active in cooler water temperatures. Fly fishing is a popular method, but small spinners and spoons can also be effective. A local tip: focus on areas with deep pools, undercut banks, and fallen logs, as these provide cover for the trout. Be aware that some of the streams in this area can be quite small and overgrown, so be prepared to wade and navigate through dense vegetation. Brown trout in this region are known for being wary, so use stealth and make accurate casts. While they may not be large, catching a brown trout in this area is a rewarding experience.
