Brown Trout

While Dassel, Minnesota, is primarily known for its warm-water fisheries, determined anglers can find some Brown Trout opportunities with a bit of travel. The closest trout streams are located further north and east, requiring a drive. Look to the Crow River and some of its tributaries for stocked and holdover brown trout. Spring and fall are the best times to target these fish, as water temperatures are cooler and trout are more active. Small spinners, spoons, and flies can all be effective. A practical tip: check the Minnesota DNR's trout stocking report to find the most recently stocked locations. Also, be aware that some sections of the Crow River may have special regulations, so consult the DNR's fishing regulations booklet before you go. While not a trophy trout destination, the Dassel area provides relatively easy access to some decent brown trout fishing with a little planning.
