Brown Trout

While Medina isn't directly on a renowned trout stream, its proximity to the Twin Cities opens access to some quality Brown Trout fishing in the surrounding rivers. The Vermillion River, a bit of a drive southeast, is a popular destination known for its scenic beauty and healthy trout population. Spring and fall are the best times to target browns, with spring offering the chance to intercept fish moving upstream and fall providing opportunities as they prepare for spawning. Small spinners, spoons, and nymphs are effective presentations. A local tip for the Vermillion is to focus on the deeper pools and undercut banks, where trout often hold. Also, be aware of the river's flow conditions, as heavy rains can make it unfishable. Access can be challenging in some areas, so be prepared for some walking. Respect private property and obtain necessary permits before fishing.
