Brown Trout

Brown Trout fishing near New Prague requires a bit of exploration, but the rewards can be worth the effort. While not as common as in some other parts of Minnesota, several streams and rivers in the region hold populations of Brown Trout, some through stocking and others through natural reproduction. Spring and fall, especially after rainfall, are excellent times to target browns, as they become more active and move into shallower water. Focus on areas with undercut banks, woody debris, and riffles. Fly fishing with nymphs and streamers is a popular method, but small spinners and spoons can also be effective. Public access can be challenging, so research stream access points and obtain permission from landowners where necessary.
