Brown Trout

While Pelican Rapids isn't renowned as a trout mecca, determined anglers can find Brown Trout opportunities in the area's streams and rivers. The Otter Tail River, in particular, holds a population of stocked and wild Brown Trout. Focus on sections with riffles, runs, and pools, where the water is well-oxygenated. Spring and fall are ideal times to target them, as the water temperatures are cooler and the fish are more active. Fly fishing with nymphs and streamers is a popular method, but spin fishing with small spinners or spoons can also be effective. Access to the river is available at various bridge crossings and public access points, but be prepared to wade in some areas. The Brown Trout in this region are generally smaller than those found in more dedicated trout streams, but they are still a rewarding catch.
