Brown Trout

While Robbinsdale isn't immediately known for its trout streams, determined anglers can find opportunities for brown trout within a reasonable drive. Focus your efforts on the tailwaters of dams along the Mississippi River or its tributaries. These areas often hold surprisingly good populations of browns due to the cooler, oxygenated water released from the depths of the reservoirs. Spring and fall are prime times, as the trout become more active with the cooler water temperatures and are often staging for spawning runs. For access, explore the public lands and parks along the river, paying close attention to areas where smaller streams enter the main channel. Be prepared to wade, and use stealthy tactics – these browns can be wary.
