Brown Trout

Targeting brown trout near Airport Drive, Missouri, will require some travel, as the immediate area isn't prime brown trout habitat. However, the Current River and the Eleven Point River, a few hours' drive southeast, offer some of the best brown trout fishing in the state. These rivers are known for their clear, cold water and abundant food sources. Fall and winter are excellent times to fish for browns, as they become more active and aggressive during spawning season. A practical tip: focus on deep pools, undercut banks, and areas with submerged logs and boulders. Browns in these rivers can be quite wary, so use stealth and long casts. Fly fishing is the most popular method, with streamers, nymphs, and dry flies all producing results. Browns in this region can grow to impressive sizes, with fish over 20 inches not uncommon.
