Brown Trout

While Archie, Missouri, isn't exactly known as a trout mecca, determined anglers can find limited opportunities for Brown Trout. The Missouri Department of Conservation stocks trout in some smaller streams and lakes in the region during the cooler months (primarily fall and winter). These stockings are usually put-and-take fisheries, meaning the goal is to catch and keep the trout. Check the MDC's website for the latest stocking schedules and specific locations near Archie. Light spinning tackle with small spinners, spoons, or worms is effective. Fly fishing with nymphs and small streamers can also produce results. Be aware that these trout are often heavily pressured immediately after stocking, so fishing early in the morning or during the week can improve your chances. While trophy-sized browns are unlikely, it's a fun way to get a trout fix without traveling to the Ozarks. Remember to purchase a trout permit in addition to your regular fishing license.
