Brown Trout

While Branson West isn't the first place that comes to mind for trout, the cold, clear waters of Lake Taneycomo, just a short drive away, support a thriving brown trout population. Taneycomo is a unique tailwater fishery fed by the depths of Table Rock Lake, creating ideal conditions for these fish. The best time to target brown trout is during the cooler months, from late fall through early spring, when they are actively feeding. Night fishing can also be very productive. A local tip: check the generation schedule for Table Rock Dam. When the dam is generating, the current picks up, and the trout become more active, but wading becomes more difficult. Also, consider using scuds and sowbugs, which are prevalent in the lake and a staple of the brown trout diet. Lake Taneycomo's brown trout are known for their size and fight, with some reaching trophy proportions.
