Brown Trout

While not as widely known as other Missouri locations for Brown Trout, the cold, clear tailwaters below Table Rock Dam, near Taneyville, do provide an opportunity to target these beautiful fish. The White River, as it flows below the dam, is the primary focus. Consistent water temperatures released from the dam create a suitable habitat. Anglers find success year-round, but the fall and winter months often produce larger fish as they prepare to spawn. Drifting nymphs, streamers, or small crankbaits can entice strikes. A local tip: pay close attention to the generation schedule at the dam. Wading can be treacherous when the water is rising, so always exercise caution and check the water release forecasts. The Brown Trout here are known for their selective feeding habits, so be prepared to experiment with different fly patterns and presentations.
