If you're looking for a great Brown Trout fishing experience in Western Pennsylvania, West Leechburg offers some surprisingly good options in the Kiski River watershed. While not as famous as some of the larger, stocked streams further north, the smaller tributaries and sections of the Kiski itself hold wild and holdover Browns that can provide a challenging and rewarding experience. Spring and fall are prime times, with the fish actively feeding before and after the summer heat. Early morning and late evening are often the most productive times to fish. A good approach is to target deeper pools and runs with nymphs or small streamers. For access, look for public access points along the Kiski River near the town. Be mindful of private property along the tributaries. The Browns here aren't particularly large, averaging 10-14 inches, but their wild nature and the scenic surroundings more than compensate.
