Largemouth Bass

The Allegheny River near West Leechburg provides a diverse habitat that supports a healthy largemouth bass population. While the river isn't known for trophy-sized largemouth, it offers consistent action and is a great place to hone your skills. Focus your efforts on areas with submerged structure, such as fallen trees, docks, and rocky outcroppings. The back channels and quieter pools are also prime largemouth habitat. Spring and fall are generally the best times to target largemouth, as they become more active with the cooler water temperatures. Topwater lures, crankbaits, and soft plastics are all effective choices. A local tip: try fishing the mouths of smaller creeks that flow into the Allegheny, as these areas often concentrate bass. Public access points are available along River Road, but be aware of limited parking in some areas. Respect private property and enjoy the scenic beauty while you're out there.
