Carp

Lavonia, Georgia, offers some surprisingly good carp fishing opportunities, largely thanks to the numerous smaller lakes and ponds scattered throughout the region, many of which are on private land but accessible with permission. Public access is available at Lake Hartwell, where carp often congregate in the shallower, weedy areas near inlets and coves. Spring and early summer are prime times, as carp move into these areas to spawn. For bank fishing, try locations around Tugaloo State Park, where you can often find carp feeding near the shore. A local tip: pre-baiting your chosen spot for a couple of days with corn or boilies can significantly increase your chances of success. The carp here tend to be wary, so using a hair rig with a smaller hook and lighter line can make a big difference. Don't be surprised if you hook into some double-digit fish; Lake Hartwell is known to hold some real bruisers.
