Largemouth Bass

Lake Hartwell, near Lavonia, Georgia, is a renowned destination for largemouth bass fishing. This sprawling reservoir, formed by the Savannah River, offers a diverse habitat, from shallow, grassy flats to deep, clear water, catering to various bass fishing techniques. Spring (March-May) is a fantastic time to target bass as they move shallow to spawn. Summer sees the fish retreating to deeper structure to escape the heat. Fall (September-November) brings another surge of activity as bass feed heavily before winter. A local's trick is to focus on the standing timber in the upper reaches of the lake, particularly around the Tugaloo and Seneca River arms. These areas hold plenty of bass year-round. Also, pay attention to the water clarity; if the water is clear, use more natural-looking baits and lighter line. Lake Hartwell's largemouth population is healthy, with opportunities to catch both numbers of fish and trophy-sized bass.
