Carp

Carp fishing in the Bristol area presents a unique angling challenge in the Holston River and its associated waterways. While often overlooked, these waters hold some surprisingly large carp. The best time to target them is during the warmer months, from late spring through early fall, when they are most active. Pre-baiting your chosen spot for a few days can significantly increase your chances of success. Corn, boilies, and bread are all effective baits. A good access point is near the weir on the South Holston, where carp often congregate. Be prepared for a fight – these fish are powerful and can put up a serious battle. Local carp tend to be wary, so use a stealthy approach and consider using a hair rig for better hooksets. The Holston also has a good population of common carp, known for their size and golden color.
