Channel Catfish

If you're looking for some whisker-twitching action, Ashland, Nebraska, offers solid channel catfish opportunities. The Platte River, which flows nearby, is the primary draw. Its muddy waters and plentiful snags provide prime habitat. Catfish in this area tend to be opportunistic feeders. Spring and early summer, after the spawn, are particularly productive as the cats are actively feeding. Fall can also be good as they bulk up for winter. For bank access, check out the public areas along the river near town; many are easily accessible. A local tip: try using cut bait or stink bait near submerged logs or in deeper holes.
