Channel Catfish

Channel catfish are a reliable target around Bokchito, Oklahoma, with numerous creeks, rivers, and small lakes offering excellent opportunities. The Red River, which forms part of Oklahoma's southern border, is a prime location, but smaller tributaries closer to Bokchito can also be very productive. Spring and summer are the best times to target channel cats, especially after a rain when they become more active. Stinkbaits, cut bait, and nightcrawlers are all effective baits. Look for channel cats in areas with current, such as near bridges, creek mouths, and submerged timber. Many local anglers fish from the bank, but a boat can provide access to more remote areas. A good strategy is to pre-bait an area for a few days before fishing, using soured grain or commercial catfish attractants. Be aware of potential flooding, especially on the Red River, and always check weather conditions before heading out. These catfish aren't particularly picky, but presenting your bait near structure is key to success.
