Spotted Bass

If you're chasing Spotted Bass in southern Oklahoma, Bokchito offers some under-the-radar opportunities. While not as famous as some of the larger reservoirs, the smaller lakes and creeks around Bokchito can hold surprisingly good populations of Spots. Focus your efforts on areas with rocky structure, submerged timber, and creek channels – classic Spotted Bass habitat. Spring and fall are prime times. During the spawn in spring, look for shallower, gravelly areas. As the water warms, Spots will move deeper, often relating to structure. In the fall, they'll follow shad schools. A Texas-rigged worm, jig, or crankbait worked slowly along the bottom are reliable choices. Access can be a bit limited in some areas, so be prepared to do some exploring to find good public access points. Check local regulations regarding access and any potential restrictions before heading out. The local Spots tend to be scrappy fighters, so be ready for a good battle on light tackle!
