Cobia

Cobia, also known as ling, are a thrilling catch off the coast of Port Bolivar. These powerful fish are often found near buoys, platforms, and other floating structures in the Gulf of Mexico. They are opportunistic feeders and can be caught using a variety of methods. The spring and summer months are generally the best time to target cobia, as they migrate closer to shore. Try sight casting with live eels, crabs, or large jigs. A helpful hint: keep an eye out for cobia swimming near rays or turtles, as they often follow these creatures. When hooked, cobia are known for their strong runs and aerial displays, so be prepared for a fight. Always use heavy tackle and a sturdy net.
