While the Buffalo itself isn't known for crappie, the connected sloughs and oxbow lakes can be productive. Spring is prime time, particularly during the pre-spawn and spawn (March-May), when crappie move into shallow water to feed and reproduce. Focus on areas with submerged timber, brush piles, or lily pads. A simple jig and bobber rig, tipped with a minnow or crappie nibble, is deadly. For bank access, try the Dillards Ferry area; it provides easy access to the river and some nearby backwaters.
