Largemouth Bass

For Largemouth Bass enthusiasts heading to Arkansas, the Buffalo National River area near Pindall offers a unique angling experience. While the Buffalo River itself isn't ideal for largemouth due to its fast-flowing nature, the nearby smaller tributaries and backwater areas hold surprisingly good populations. Think outside the box; focus on the calmer pools and creek mouths where largemouth can find refuge. Spring and early summer, during the spawn and post-spawn, are excellent times to target these fish. Topwater lures, spinnerbaits, and shallow-diving crankbaits can be highly effective. Access can be a bit challenging, often requiring hiking or wading. A local tip: Look for areas with overhanging trees and submerged logs, as these provide excellent cover for bass. Also, be mindful of water levels, as heavy rains can quickly raise the river and make fishing difficult. The largemouth in this area tend to be opportunistic feeders, so experiment with different lure presentations to find what works best.
