Crappie

Carlton, Georgia, is a great starting point for crappie fishing in the northeast part of the state. While Carlton itself doesn't have a major lake, it's within easy driving distance of several excellent crappie fisheries. Lake Russell and Clarks Hill (Strom Thurmond) are both within an hour's drive and offer fantastic crappie fishing opportunities. Spring is undoubtedly the best time to target crappie, as they move into shallow water to spawn. Look for them around submerged brush piles, docks, and creek channels.
