Crappie

If you're looking for some slab-sized crappie in the Norcross area, you'll want to focus your attention on the Chattahoochee River and its associated backwaters and tributaries. While the river itself can be challenging due to current, the slower-moving areas offer excellent crappie habitat. Early spring, particularly March and April, is prime time as the crappie move into shallower water to spawn. Fall can also be productive as they fatten up before winter. Target submerged timber, brush piles, and docks with small jigs or minnows under a bobber. A local tip: Check water levels before you go, as heavy rains can muddy the river and impact fishing. Public access is available at several parks along the river, including Jones Bridge Park, which has a boat ramp. The crappie here aren't always huge, but the numbers can be impressive, and a limit of tasty fish is definitely achievable.
