Crappie

If crappie are your target, Raceland, Kentucky offers some overlooked opportunities. While not as well-known as some of the larger lakes in the state, the smaller lakes and reservoirs around Raceland hold decent populations of crappie. Greenbo Lake State Resort Park, a short drive from Raceland, is a good starting point. Spring is prime time, as crappie move into shallow waters to spawn. Focus on submerged timber, brush piles, and weed beds in the coves. Small jigs tipped with minnows or crappie nibbles are effective. Another local tip: Check with local bait shops for information on smaller, lesser-known ponds and lakes in the area, as these can sometimes offer surprisingly good crappie fishing with less pressure. The crappie in this region tend to be average in size, but the opportunity for a good stringer is definitely there.
