Largemouth Bass

For largemouth bass anglers, Raceland, Kentucky, provides access to a variety of smaller lakes, ponds, and river backwaters that hold good populations of bass. While there isn't one single dominant body of water right in Raceland, the surrounding area offers plenty of options for exploration. Spring and fall are the peak seasons for bass fishing here. The spring spawn, typically in April and May, sees bass moving into shallow water to nest. Fall, from September to November, finds them actively feeding before winter. A great approach is to explore the smaller lakes and ponds in Greenup County. Many of these waters offer good bank fishing access. Also, consider the backwaters and sloughs of the Ohio River; these areas can hold some surprisingly large bass. Local anglers often have success with spinnerbaits, plastic worms, and crankbaits. Pay attention to water clarity and adjust your lure selection accordingly. In clearer water, natural-colored lures tend to work best, while in murkier water, brighter colors can be more effective.
