Crappie

Loma Linda, Missouri, offers some surprisingly good crappie fishing opportunities, especially if you know where to look. While not a major destination fishery, the smaller lakes and ponds scattered throughout the area, along with the Spring River, can hold decent populations of slab crappie. Spring is prime time, as the crappie move into the shallows to spawn. Look for them around submerged timber, brush piles, and docks in the backs of coves. A simple jig and bobber rig is often all you need. Another productive time is the fall as the water cools and crappie actively feed before winter. Local Tip: Check out the smaller, less-pressured ponds on public lands. Many are easily accessible and offer a more secluded fishing experience. Also, the Spring River can be productive, especially near downed trees and slower-moving sections; a kayak or canoe can be very useful for accessing prime spots. The crappie in this region tend to average a bit smaller, but persistence can pay off with some nice surprises.
