If you're looking for some slab-sided crappie action in southern New Jersey, Corbin City offers some surprisingly good freshwater opportunities. While not as well-known as some other areas of the state, the local waterways, like the Tuckahoe River and its tributaries, provide the perfect habitat for crappie to thrive. Spring is prime time, as the crappie move into the shallows to spawn. Look for them around submerged structure like fallen trees and docks. A small jig tipped with a minnow or a crappie nibble is a classic and effective presentation. Summer can still be productive, but you'll need to fish deeper, especially during the heat of the day. Access can be a bit limited, so check for public access points along the Tuckahoe River. Be mindful of the tides if you're fishing closer to the bay. A kayak or canoe can be a great way to explore the smaller creeks and find those hidden crappie honey holes. The crappie here aren't giants, but you can find some respectable fish, and the relative lack of fishing pressure compared to more popular spots can make for a rewarding day on the water.
