Crappie

Crappie

freshwater

If you're after some slab-sided crappie, Glendo Reservoir is worth a look. This Wyoming reservoir offers decent crappie fishing, though it may require some searching to find the schools. Focus your efforts around submerged structure like brush piles, standing timber, and the numerous man-made fish attractors that have been placed throughout the reservoir. Spring, especially during the spawn (late April-May), is prime time when crappie move into the shallows to nest. Small jigs tipped with minnows or crappie nibbles are the go-to bait. As the water warms in summer, look for crappie suspended deeper, near submerged trees. A fish finder is essential for locating these deeper schools. A local tip: try fishing the coves on the north end of the reservoir; they often hold good numbers of crappie. Be prepared to move around until you locate a productive spot.
