Hammondsport, nestled in the Finger Lakes region, is inland and doesn't offer Flounder fishing directly. For Flounder, you'll need to venture towards the coastal regions of New York. Long Island's south shore is your best bet. These flatfish are most active during the spring and fall as water temperatures moderate. Look for them in sandy or muddy bottom areas of bays and estuaries. A simple bottom rig with a Flounder hook baited with sandworms or pieces of clam is a proven method. Drifting slowly across potential Flounder habitat can be highly productive. Public access points and boat launches are available along the south shore, providing easy access to Flounder fishing grounds. Remember to check local regulations regarding size and creel limits. Tides play a crucial role, with Flounder often more active during periods of moving water.
