Flounder

Atlantic Beach, NC, offers excellent opportunities to target Flounder, especially the Southern Flounder. The inshore waters, including the marshes, canals, and docks around the area, provide ideal ambush points for these flatfish. Fall is prime time, as flounder migrate out of the creeks and bays towards the ocean to spawn. Focus your efforts near inlets like Bogue Inlet, where they stage before heading offshore. A Carolina rig with live mullet or mud minnows is a classic and effective presentation. Slowly drag your bait along the bottom, paying close attention to any subtle bumps or taps. A helpful hint: Many anglers have success drifting along the edges of channels with the current. Be patient and persistent; flounder are masters of camouflage. The flounder in this region are generally good-sized, with some real doormats lurking in the deeper channels. Don't be afraid to try fishing at night under the lights of docks for a different approach.
