Flounder

Flounder fishing near Bay City is a popular pursuit, particularly during the fall migration as they move into the bays from the Gulf. These flatfish are ambush predators, so focus on areas with structure and current breaks. Docks, jetties, and channel edges are prime locations. Working a soft plastic lure slowly along the bottom is a productive tactic. Live mud minnows or finger mullet are also excellent bait choices. The East Matagorda Bay is well-known for its flounder population. When wading, shuffle your feet to avoid stepping on them, and be mindful of stingrays. A good access point is the Mitchell's Cut boat ramp, offering easy access to the bay. Bay City flounder are known for their delicious taste, making them a prized catch for local anglers.
