Flounder

Flounder fishing around South Padre Island offers a rewarding experience, particularly in the fall as they migrate towards the Gulf for spawning. The key is to target areas with sandy or muddy bottoms near channels and inlets. The flats around the Laguna Madre are also productive. A good strategy is to slowly drag a Carolina-rigged live shrimp or mud minnow along the bottom. A local tip: focus on areas where the current is sweeping through, as flounder will often ambush prey from these spots. The flounder in this area are known for their camouflage abilities, so you'll need to be patient and observant. Pay close attention to any subtle taps or bumps on your line. The waters near the jetties can also hold good numbers of flounder, but be cautious of strong currents and rocks.
