Guadalupe Bass
Finding Guadalupe bass in Kissimmee, Florida, might require a bit of exploration beyond the typical largemouth bass haunts. While not as common as in their native Texas, Guadalupe bass have been introduced in some Florida waters and can occasionally be found in the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes, particularly in the clearer, spring-fed creeks and rivers that connect the lakes. Focus your efforts on areas with cooler water temperatures and more current. The canals and tributaries flowing into Lake Tohopekaliga (Lake Toho) might hold some surprises. Spring and early summer are promising times to target them, as they may be spawning or actively feeding. Small spinners, crankbaits, and fly fishing techniques can be effective. Given their rarity in this area, catch-and-release is strongly encouraged. Be prepared for the possibility of catching other bass species as well, as largemouth are far more prevalent. Look for areas with submerged vegetation and rocky bottoms, mimicking their preferred habitat. Local anglers often use light tackle and focus on finesse techniques to entice bites in these pressured waters.
