The best time to target Halibut is during the spring and summer months when they migrate into the bay to feed on anchovies and other baitfish. Drifting live bait, such as anchovies or smelt, is a popular and effective technique. Alternatively, try bouncing swimbaits or jigs along the bottom. Pay attention to tide changes, as Halibut often become more active during tidal flows. Launching from Santa Cruz Harbor provides easy access to productive fishing grounds.
