Hybrid Striped Bass

Hybrid striped bass, also known as 'stripers' or 'hybrids', aren't a primary target in the immediate El Lago area, but venturing a bit further opens up some opportunities. While Clear Lake itself is primarily saltwater/brackish, slightly upriver in the connected freshwater systems, you might find some stocked hybrids that have moved downstream. However, for more consistent hybrid striper fishing, consider a trip to Lake Livingston, a little over an hour north. Lake Livingston is regularly stocked and offers a more reliable hybrid fishery. Spring and fall are peak seasons, as the fish are more active in cooler water. Trolling crankbaits or casting swimbaits near points and humps can be effective. Check the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department stocking reports for Lake Livingston to get an idea of recent stocking efforts. Be prepared for fast-paced action when you find them!
