Hybrid Striped Bass

Hybrid striped bass, a hard-fighting sportfish, can be found in several of Houston's larger reservoirs. Lake Livingston, a short drive north, is a known hotspot. These fish are stocked, creating a put-and-take fishery. Spring and fall are the best times to target them, as they school up to chase shad. Trolling crankbaits or casting swimbaits near points and humps are effective techniques. Live shad is also a top producer. A crucial local tip: watch your electronics for bait balls and concentrate your efforts there. Hybrid stripers in this region tend to be aggressive, often hitting lures with considerable force. Be prepared for a good fight. Public boat ramps provide easy access to the lake, but be aware of potential wind conditions, which can create challenging boating conditions.
